SARNIA – Leading the way.
Midfielder Katie Griffiths has officially announced her commitment to Head Coach Kevin Simmonds and the Lambton Women’s Soccer Program for the 2025 season, and beyond.
Griffiths is the first member of the 2025 recruiting class for Simmonds and the rest of the Lions coaching staff.
“I’m really excited to be here and make my college decision official,” said Griffiths after making her college commitment official in front of her family and friends inside the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex. “I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time, and having my friends and family here really meant a lot to me.”
“I was a bit worried that the emotions were going to take over when my mom looked at me and started crying, but I’m really excited and I’m happy to be part of the Lambton College community now.”
Griffiths, a five-foot-seven midfielder from Mt. Brydges, comes to Lambton College by way of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Strathroy, where she plays for the Centurions Senior Girls Soccer Team. Outside of high school soccer, Griffiths plays for the Whitecaps FC Tier 2 U18 team in the London & Area Women’s Soccer League (LAWSL).
On the field, Griffiths primarily plays as either a central defensive midfielder or a central attacking midfielder. She also serves as the captain for both the Centurions and the Whitecaps, showcasing her leadership qualities.
“I’d like to think that I’m a born leader,” added Griffiths. “I like to talk a lot on the field and be a team player, doing my best wherever I can.”
In addition to soccer, Griffiths plays hockey for the Blazers U18 AA team.
For Simmonds, it was the leadership abilities and versatility for Griffiths that stood out to him about her play on the field.
“Katie (Griffiths) is a player that plays centre midfield with a high soccer IQ,” said Simmonds. “She sees the field and has an engine and skill set that compliments her ability to dictate the game.”
“She has leadership qualities with a passion for playing the game of soccer, and we’re looking forward to having her in a Lambton uniform for years to come.”
Academically, Griffiths will be enrolled in the Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training Program at Lambton College.
When she steps on campus in the fall as a student-athlete at Lambton College, Griffiths is looking forward to all that the next chapter of her life has to offer, from her academic and athletic journeys to taking part in different things on campus throughout the year.
“I’m looking forward to living in residence and meeting new people,” said Griffiths. “I’m looking forward to all the student life events and meeting new people through that, as well.”
“I’m looking forward to being part of the team, being with my friends while also making new friends on the team and on campus, and having a really good experience within my program, as well.”
Welcome to The Den, Katie!
