SARNIA – Adding some local flare to the roster moving forward.
Guard Mykenna Spowart has officially committed to Head Coach Janine Day and the Lambton Women’s Basketball Program for the 2026-27 season, and beyond.
Spowart is the third commitment in the 2026 recruiting class for Day and company. Spowart will join fellow incoming guards Grace MacDonald (Stoney Creek, Ont.) and Katie DeLuca (London, Ont.) with the Lions when September rolls around.
“The Women’s Basketball Team is thrilled to welcome a local recruit from Northern,” said Day. “Mykenna is an outstanding athlete who excelled at multiple sports over her high school career.”
“She is incredibly coachable, relentless on the floor, and the exact type of player we value at Lambton College. Mykenna adds another tenacious defender to our rotation, along with outstanding playmaking ability. We are excited to have her in a Lions uniform this fall.”
Spowart, a five-foot-four guard, comes to Lambton College by way of Sarnia’s Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School, becoming the latest Vikings alum to don Lambton blue in the OCAA.
With the Lions, Spowart will be reunited with former Northern teammate Lillian Bernard, who is coming off a rookie campaign that saw her earn a spot on the West Division All-Rookie Team.
“Overall, I’m just really excited,” said Spowart. “I’m looking forward to another basketball season, and everything else that’s to come.”
“I’m excited to play with new teammates, to improve my skills, and to learn a lot both from basketball and my program in school.”
Academically, Spowart will be enrolled in the Chemical Production & Power Engineering Technology Program at Lambton College.
Spowart joins a Lambton program that is expected to return the bulk of its roster from a season ago. The Lions are coming off a fifth-place finish in the West Division standings during the regular season after posting an 8-8 record. The Lions picked up a road playoff win over George Brown in the Crossover Round before falling to Mohawk in the OCAA Quarterfinals.
The addition of Spowart to an already talented back court rotation adds more depth to the roster on both sides of the floor.
When she was asked about her own game on the court, Spowart’s answer quickly echoed the sentiments from Coach Day, citing some strong defensive skills and nice passes as things that Lambton fans can expect to see from her on the court come September.
Welcome to The Den, Mykenna!
