Medway Guard Katie DeLuca Commits to Lambton Women’s Basketball Program for 2026-27 Season

SARNIA – Added another two-way threat to the back court rotation.

Guard Katie DeLuca has officially committed to Head Coach Janine Day and the Lambton Women’s Basketball Program for the 2026-27 season, and beyond.

DeLuca is the second commitment in the 2026 recruiting class for Day and the rest of the Lions coaching staff. DeLuca will join fellow guard Grace MacDonald (Stoney Creek, Ont.) as a newcomer in a Lambton uniform when September rolls around.

“We are thrilled to have Katie in a Lions uniform for the next four years,” said Day. “She is a key addition to the 2026-27 Lions backcourt due to her perimeter scoring and ability to handle the ball.”

“Katie has competed at a high level as a member of the London Ramblers JUEL team. As a defender, she will strengthen a strong returning group. Her leadership style and coachability are both qualities that we value at Lambton College.”

DeLuca, a five-foot-five guard, comes to Lambton College by way of Medway High School in Arva. In addition to playing for the Medway Senior Girls Basketball Team, DeLuca also plays for the London Ramblers JUEL Program.

Grace MacDonald plays for the Hamilton Yellow Jackets JUEL Program, meaning DeLuca and MacDonald will go from opponents to teammates in the fall when they arrive on campus.

DeLuca’s commitment to the Lions is an exciting new chapter for DeLuca, and she’ll have some familiarity with her new home court as she played inside the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex when she was growing up.

“I’m really excited to make my commitment official and begin my post-secondary journey at Lambton,” said DeLuca. “I played in the Lambton gym when I was younger, so it’s a full-circle moment to be able to play for Lambton now.”

“I’m excited to go into my program, as it’s something that I’ve been really passionate about. For basketball, I’m excited to meet new people and play at a higher, more competitive level in the OCAA.”

Academically, DeLuca will be enrolled in the four-year Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing Program at Lambton College.

From the start of her recruitment, DeLuca had a feeling that Lambton was the spot for her. From the feel of the college to the support she received from the coaches and players on the team, the welcoming environment of Lambton College is what drew her in and led to her commitment to the Lions.

When she steps on the court in a Lambton uniform in the fall, she wants Lambton fans to know that they’ll see maximum effort on both ends of the court, especially when it comes to defending her own net.

“Fans can expect a lot of hustle on defense,” added DeLuca. “I’d say that’s my stronger side of the court, and I really enjoy playing defense so they can see a lot of heart and hustle on that end of the court.”

When you add in her scoring touch that Coach Day touched on, it’s easy to see why the Lions are excited about the potential that DeLuca brings to the roster over the next four years.

Welcome to The Den, Katie!
