SARNIA – There’s a new post presence in town.
Forward Hannah Vink has officially committed to Head Coach Janine Day and the Lambton Women’s Basketball Program for the 2026-27 season, and beyond.
Vink is the fifth member of the 2026 recruiting class for Day and the rest of the Lions coaching staff, bolstering a talent-laden group of incoming players for the program. Vink joins a recruiting class that features guards Grace MacDonald (Stoney Creek, Ont.), Katie DeLuca (London, Ont.), Mykenna Spowart (Sarnia, Ont.), and Cayleigh Allen (Sarnia, Ont.).
“I’m really looking forward to what’s to come at Lambton,” said Vink. “I’m looking forward to experiencing the college lifestyle, making new friends and making those relationships, bonding and building for the future.”
“It was kind of nerve wracking at first, setting it all up and the commitment just becoming real. It was kind of scary, but as we got through it, I got more and more excited and I’m ready to have this part (of the process) off my mind for a little while and can focus on other things as I get ready for the fall. Coach AJ (Moses) always says that being nervous is a good thing, and it means that you care.”
Vink, a six-foot forward, comes to Lambton College from Staffa, Ontario in West Perth. Vink attends Mitchell District High School, which has recently become a hot bed on the recruiting trail for a handful of varsity programs for the Lions.
Outside of high school, Vink currently played for the London Ramblers JUEL program, where she is teammates with fellow Lions commit Katie DeLuca.
For Day, the addition of another forward to the mix increases the potential of next year’s group while increasing the level of excitement surrounding the team, both internally and externally.
“We are elated to announce the signing of Hannah Vink,” said Day. “Hannah has an extremely high ceiling, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to develop in a Lions uniform.”
“Hannah joins the Lions with a wealth of basketball experience and knowledge, having played for such programs as Mitchell District High School, the KW Vipers, and most recently the London Ramblers JUEL Program. She will add not only athleticism and skill for years to come, but also length on both ends of the court.”
For Vink, the academic piece was just as important for her as the athletic piece as she was considering her options for post-secondary. Ultimately, the pathway from school to her desired career set Lambton College apart.
Vink will be enrolled in the Occupational Therapist Assistant & Physiotherapist Assistant (OPTA) Program at Lambton College.
“I think, probably the biggest thing was the academic side,” added Vink. “It gives me a good pathway into what I want to do.”
“Eventually, I want to get into Physiotherapy. So, the OPTA Program gives me a good path into that when I graduate.”
Vink joins a Lambton program that is expected to return the bulk of its roster from a season ago. The Lions are coming off a fifth-place finish in the West Division standings during the regular season after posting an 8-8 record. The Lions picked up a road playoff win over George Brown in the Crossover Round before falling to Mohawk in the OCAA Quarterfinals.
The addition of Vink to the front court fills an immediate need for the Lions with the graduation of their forwards from last season. Her length gives the Lions a big boost on the glass on both ends of the floor, and her footwork in the paint will give the Lions an interior scoring presence.
Welcome to The Den, Hannah!
