SARNIA – A familiar face will join the Lions roster in January for the stretch run.
Wing Aaliyah Johnson has officially committed to Head Coach Janine Day and the Lambton Women’s Basketball Program for the second half of the 2025-26 season, and beyond.
After training with the team during the fall semester, Johnson will wear #3 when the Lions return to OCAA action on January 9th at St. Clair.”
“I’m excited to be joining the team this season,” said Johnson. “I’m ready to put in the work, have lots of fun, and immerse myself in the City of Sarnia.”
“Fans can expect to see high energy from me, both on the bench and on the court, and someone who plays a clean and fun game on both ends of the court.”
Originally from the Bahamas, Johnson brings a wealth of experience with her on the basketball court. Her familiarity with the team and its systems on both ends of the court should make for a seamless transition from practices to games, and there’s an increased level of excitement within the team for the second semester.
Coach Day is excited about the potential that Johnson brings to the court, and she can’t wait to see her in game action in the New Year.
“The Women’s Basketball Program is proud to welcome a recruit whose journey is a testament to hard work, resilience, and belief,” said Coach Day on Johnson. “Aaliyah is a quiet leader who unites teammates, both on and off the court, and she is a student-athlete that we value immensely at Lambton College.”
“Aaliayh comes to The Den with past playing experience in her home country of the Bahamas. Her tremendous athleticism will add to our roster on both ends of the court. Her ball handling ability and tenacity on defense will strengthen our back court presence.”
Johnson joins a Lions program that posted a 3-5 record during the first half of the 2025-26 season and enters the holiday break in a tie for fifth in the always-competitive OCAA West Division. Three of the team’s losses came by six of fewer points, which has the team feeling confident heading into the stretch run ahead of the post-season.
The addition of Johnson to the mix only increases the level of confidence within the group and the level of excitement around the team as they enter the holiday break.
After opening with St. Clair on January 9th, the Lions will play their first home game of the second semester on Friday, January 16th when the Mohawk Mountaineers come to town.
Welcome to The Den, Aaliyah!
