North York Guard Malachai Torno Commits to Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for 2026-27 Season

SARNIA – Added some physicality to the roster for years to come.

Shooting guard Malachai Torno has officially committed to Head Coach James Grant and the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for the 2026-27 season, and beyond.

Torno is the sixth member in the 2026 recruiting class for Grant and the rest of the Lions coaching staff, joining a talented crop of incoming players for the program. Torno joins a recruiting class that includes guard Oshane Campbell (Chatham, Ont.), forward Isaac Mackey (Strathroy, Ont.), guard Romane Graham (Whitby, Ont.), guard Aaron Aikoroje (Vaughan, Ont.), and guard Aiden Clarke (Scarborough, Ont.).

“Honestly, I’m just very excited right now, having been able to do something that I’ve always wanted to do,” said Torno after making his college decision official. “It’s going to be a new experience for me, and I’m looking forward to it all.”

“I’m just excited to be here (at Lambton). I’m excited to play, I’m excited to be around new coaches and teammates, and just get to travel with them and grow as a person and as a player.”

Torno, a six-foot-five shooting guard, comes to Lambton College by way of George S. Henry Academy in Toronto, becoming the fourth player from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to commit to the Men’s Basketball Program this year.

Grant is intrigued at what Torno can bring to the roster, both immediately and into the future as he gets acclimated to the college game.

“Malachai came into his workout and was physically dominant,” said Grant. “His physical effort really stood out (to us).”

“We were looking to add a player that could bring that type of edge to the roster. The best part is, he can shoot the three, too.”

For Torno, he hopes to showcase his physicality and shooting abilities for Lambton fans when he makes his debut in the fall.

“Fans can expect to see hard work,” added Torno. “Defense, a lot of threes, things like that.”

“If I’m open, I’m going to shoot it. Even if I miss, I’m going to keep shooting it.”

Academically, Torno will be enrolled in the Social Service Worker Program at Lambton College.

Torno joins a Lambton program that’s expected to return the bulk of their 2025-26 roster, one that finished the regular season with a 10-8 record, good for fourth in the always-competitive West Division.

The addition of Torno to the back court rotation adds a physical three-and-d guard to the mix. Torno’s ability to shoot from long range should add a spark to the offense, while his physicality on both ends of the court should cause havoc for opposing players.

Welcome to The Den, Malachai!
