Lions Land Commitment from Versatile Burlington Guard Mekhi Wilson for 2025-26 Season

SARNIA – It seems as though the number four and the last name Wilson go hand-in-hand with the Men’s Basketball Program.

Guard Mekhi Wilson has officially committed to Head Coach James Grant and the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for the 2025-26 season, and beyond.

Wilson is the sixth member of the 2025 recruiting class for Grant and company. Wilson will join the likes of Blake Redfern (Mitchell, Ont.), Liam Tosh (Brantford, Ont.), Traivon Hayes (Brantford, Ont.), Billy Van Boxtel (London, Ont.), and Kadin Cantrell (Port Huron, Mich.) as a newcomer with the Lions come September when the new season rolls around.

“Today was an exciting day,” said Wilson after making his commitment official. “I’m excited for next season to be able to continue my education and my basketball career.”

“Playing basketball in post-secondary has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I’m excited for all the unknowns, a new city, and a whole new environment from what I’m used to. I’m just excited to see what the future holds for me.”

Wilson, a six-foot-one guard, comes to Lambton College by way of Burlington, where he currently attends M. M. Robinson High School. Outside of high school, Wilson plays under Head Coach Rod Alfaro with the West United Prep Academy U19 program.

Back at the beginning of March, Wilson and his West United Prep Academy teammates were in South Carolina for the BIG SHOTS Nation Prep Nationals tournament. Wilson and company won the Diamond Division championship with a win over Cali Prep.

For Coach Grant, he credits the relationship he’s built with the coaches at West United Prep for introducing him to the type of player and person that Mekhi is, both on and off the court. Wilson has come as advertised, and Grant is excited about the potential that Wilson will bring to the group for years to come.

“I have developed a really good friendship with Rod Alfaro at West United, and one of the first players he talked to me about in this year’s class was Mekhi,” said Grant. “He’s a great leader, a hard worker, and an exceptional student.”

“As I have gotten to know Mekhi myself, you can tell that he can really play the game, and that is exactly what Rob said he was. He is the type of person that is going to leave a lasting impression on our program, and school, through his four years in our Nursing program. What a great addition he is for us at Lambton.”

Academically, Wilson will be enrolled in the Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing Program at Lambton College.

Wilson has the ability to play at both guard positions for the Lions, adding another element of versatility to the back court rotation for the Lions moving ahead. It’s that versatility that Wilson hopes Lions fans see from him when he dons a Lambton jersey in game action for the first time in the fall.

“You’re definitely going to see me guarding the best player,” added Wilson. “I’ll be picking up full court, giving all my energy on defense, and then knocking down open shots (on offense).”

Welcome to The Den, Mekhi!
